Pekingese 

The Pekingese are a charming adorable toy dog with a great history dating back to 1860, they were bred in ancient China, the breed was the dog of choice in the Royal Chinese Imperial Court as a companion dog and it's name comes from the Forbidden City is located in Peking.

 

There are 2 types of Pekingese : "mini" and "sleeve"

Sleeve get the name from legends of Chinese emperors hiding them in the sleeves of their Robes as defence dog's.

 

A lion and a marmoset fell in love, but the lion was too large. The gods intervened to even their size; in one version of the story they shrank the lion down, in another they enlarged the marmoset. The Pekingese was the result.

They call them Lion Dogs due to their resemblance to Chinese guardian dog.
